HERMANN JOSTOCK
Hermann Jostock (vintage 1960) started more than 30 years ago as an apprentice at St. Urbans-Hof.
His sensitivity to grapevines is extraordinary. Nik Weis invests a lot of time visiting every vineyard together with Hermann to discuss the necessary steps.
Acting in concert with nature's proclivities of changing weather conditions is an art they seek to master. Hermann performs this with a well-trained and innate sense. His comprehensive understanding of the vegetative process and his far-reaching vision are of great help to the estate.
In addition, he's the technical manager of the renowned Weis nursery with the goal of selecting the finest bud wood for propagation of new vines. He pursues his work with a Teutonic love for detail, constantly looking for old genetic material which helps to bring forth the essence of great Riesling.
